The speciality of Landscape Architecture
Tallinn University of Technology is the only university in Estonia where landscape architects are taught on the basis of a curriculum developed specially for educating landscape architects. The curriculum considers all the necessary conditions required for training landscape architects. Both, the bachelor’s and master’s curricula are autonomous and do no deal with the specialisation of other specialities at any level. The curriculum of landscape architecture has received the approval of the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research on 23 December 2005.
Landscape architect’s work includes the analysis and design of landscape, also the design of different structures and monitoring of landscape building, the restoration of historical places and monuments, participation in spatial planning (at local and regional level) and environmental impact assessment, the maintenance of green areas in densely populated regions, and other tasks.
The main landscape architect’s duty is to plan landscapes, built-up and green areas, and others. A landscape architect deals with organising the surrounding landscape to make it suitable for people’s living environment. A landscape architect plans the use of landscape and connects artificial elements with natural structures basing the task on the principles of sustainable development. The work requires the sense of composition, analytical thinking and spatial ability, also willingness to cooperate with the specialists of other fields and knowledge of other specialities.
